What is Boss totem?
A boss totem is inside a chest that opens with that boss's key. The on-screen instruction is to place the totem and protect it from zombies while it survives. Doing so grants a day multiplier. In the Grounder clear, the result was x4 added to buildings. The totem is not the same object as the artifact players are still asking how to find.

How do you get Boss totem?
Defeat the boss, hold its key, and open the locked chest. Grounder's key was named in that clear. The Pharaoh clear instead highlighted an ancient key for a special box.
How do you use Boss totem?
Put the totem next to the defense you already have. Stay with it through the zombie pressure. Leaving it in the chest does not add the multiplier. One clear reported x4. Do not plan crafting costs as if every totem is x4.
